A very stunning item in the shop back in around November 1988, très petite, six feet tall, unloaded from Alan Franklin Transport lorry, the French were particularly keen on Japanese lacquer in the late 19th Century. Possibly made in Japan for the European market or from four chopped down panels from a much older screen. Was purchased at a small fair in La Rochelle, going halves with another dealer, Jilly Palmer, cost FF26,000 (remember those?) and sold at Olympia fair that December for around £4500. Where now?
